Matt Smith Doctor Who Costume

Hello whovians! I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan. As many watchers of the show know, there has never been a female doctor. Many people love to dress up as some of the Doctors, but some people might not want to spend a ton of money on a costume or won't have an excuse to wear it. So I'm going to try and give an inspired outfit of the 11th doctor, played by Matt Smith, that people can pull together for a last-minute conference or just an outfit to wear. Most of these clothes are things you can find in your closet or that a friend may have for you to borrow. For anyone who don't watch Doctor Who, I seriously recommend that you do. And to any die-hard fans, this is only inspired, so this look is going to be a bit casual and not exactly like the costume. Geronimo!
Firstly, you see that the Doctor has these black laced ankle boots that he wears often. You can use a plain pair of combat boots or black ankle sneakers. These can be found at Charlotte Russe for about $15.00. They’re pretty cute and not as expensive as other boots.
This is one option that I thought was pretty adorable, and the leopard print really makes this shoe pop and give it a creative flare. Oh, and 11 usually wears black socks, but you can get really creative with this part of the outfit. A friend of mine got a pair of Doctor Who socks that are really cute. Or, you can throw in a pair of rainbow socks, like the 4th Doctor's scarf. It's really up to you.
Next, 11 has a pair of long black pants that have a bit of an average waist. However, I think a really nice pant style is a pair of jeans with a bit of a high waist. These don’t come as cheap as the shoes, but AliExpress has a nice pair that’s about $18.00.
Any jean will do, but I really like high-waisted style of jean is very flattering and they make you look a bit taller and can show off your figure.

Okay, now we can move to the shirt. Here, you can get creative and a bit goofy. If you want to wear a true-to-the-show-shirt, the Doctor has a red and white dress shirt. This can be a bit difficult to find, but a red or white blouse will do. These can be found at JCPenney for about $15.00, but a white or red blouse can be found hiding in your closet.
But you don’t really have to stick with this part of the costume. Since this is Doctor Who inspired, maybe throw in a Doctor Who t-shirt (Hot Topic) or anything you want. I recommend staying away from heavy patterns, as this could throw off the balance of this outfit. But get creative with this part. Find what works for you and roll with it.
Now, 11 has this lovely lighter brown coat that he wears in the earlier seasons (5-7 part 1). These coats are a bit hard to find that are cheaper than paying over $100 for a single coat. I found one that was $32.99 from Lands’ End that works for this outfit, but again, you can get creative with this part. I would stick with light browns, greys, and blacks for this outfit.
Last, but certainly not least, the iconic bow tie. You can’t have an 11 outfit without a bow tie. It just doesn’t work like that! So I found this AWESOME red bow tie from Solid Color Neckties. They only cost about $4.95 and they complete this outfit.
Also, 11 wears suspenders. In the earlier seasons, they were red or a bright color. In the later seasons, they were black or a deep plum color. The same goes for the bow ties. You can use any suspenders that you might have, or you can but them at Hot Topic as well.
This outfit can be un-whovianfied (that’s a word now) and worn as a super cute outfit, if you would like. I hope you all enjoyed this, and let me know what other outfits you want to see girlified and as cheap as a girl on the internet can find (without going on ebay).

P.S. Sorry for the late update! I was out of town for a few weeks. Also, sorry for bad grammar/writing.

Fallen Book Review

Yeah, this book was bad. Try to avoid it if at all possible.
Fallen by Lauren Kate is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Lucinda (also known as Luce) is sent to the Sword & Cross boarding school in Savannah which houses a number of teenage delinquents. Ever since a supernatural accident that killed a boy, Luce is thrown into a world that she doesn't belong in and pulled further and further away from her comfortable life in Georgia. Adding on to her confusion, a mystery is unfurling around her and no one will tell Luce what is going on. It all seems to be revolving around her and the quiet, handsome Daniel Grigori. Daniel seems to be hiding his (and Luce's) past at all costs and continuously pushes Luce away. Can she find out what is going on at Sword & Cross before it's too late and she is killed?
Okay, that might have been a short, yet misleading, description of Fallen. In actuality, it took me a long time to finish this book. It wasn't until about the end of the book that the story actually started to pick up, and that's what made this book feel longer than it did. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the plot because it was such a slow start and middle and I could barely read a page or two at a time because the book would make me fall asleep. It felt like I was trudging through the pages. The idea for a story was unoriginal and I wound up hating most of the characters and the plot.
Another point that bothered me was how Luce was written. She was acting very obsessive and stalkerish towards the main 'love interest' Daniel. Luce also didn't have any defining features other than she was so confused off how Daniel was so uninterested in her, which was very similar to Bella from Twilight. Luce couldn't do anything to help herself and always had to have someone take care of her when she was in trouble. Also, Luce's inability to make decisions in the story also bothered me. Someone else always had to make decisions for her and she did nothing to help anyone. Luce also only figured out main plot points that I knew from reading the first few chapters. It just annoyed me because I was expecting a stronger female lead in a story.
I personally did not like this story. I give this story two out of five candle flames. There were some parts of this story that were okay enough, but it wasn't enough to save this sinking ship. I recommend that you skip out on this story because it was a waste of my reading time. I definitely will not read the sequel, because to me, it's just was not worth it.

The Rating System

So, one thing that I want to make clear before I really start something on this blog will be the rating of how I scale a book, a movie, or maybe even a fashion trend. So, this is going to be the whole system.
For books that I generally liked and didn't make me want to burn every page out of the book, I will have a rating of one to five stars. Here is what the star will look like:
So basically, one star means: This is a standard rating for a standard book.
Two stars mean: This book was good, but I'll skip rereading it.
Three stars mean: This was a pretty okay book, so I'll recommend it.
Four stars mean: Wow, I am very impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I will lend this to people that I really like.
Five stars mean: This. Book. Was. Perfect. In. Every. Way. There was nothing wrong with this book.
Generally, I will try not to give out that many four stars, and five stars will be unheard of. Just because a book has three stars doesn't mean that I didn't love them, quite the contrary. However, as a book critic, I have to be (not to point out the obvious) critical. So, even if I really like a book, I may have to give it three stars, just for the fact that I don't really want to give out four star books. So please try to keep that in mind.
The next part of my rating system that I want to do is to make a sort-of anti-star system (all of the credit goes to my older brother for this idea.) So for the anti-star system, I'm going to use a lit candle, to show that I want to BURN THIS BOOK! So here you go:
One flame means: This book just missed the star expectations. Sorry book.
Two flames mean: Yeah, this book was bad. Try to avoid it if at all possible.
Three flames mean: Abort. Abort. Abort. No. Stop. Put this book back on the shelf. Abort mission!
Four flames mean: Give this book to a person you hate, telling them that it was awesome and yes, I promise it gets better! (Not.)
Five flames mean: Excuse me, I'm off to go burn every copy of this book and then purge the story line from my memory.

An Introduction to Me

Hello everyone! I am known now as Lulu. I started this blog because I love to write and I love to read. Now, this blog won't JUST be about books. Oh, no. My interests range FAR away from that. I love fashion, movies, Doctor Who, and sharing tips and advice that I learn along the way. I want this blog to be special me and to you, the Internet surfer. I will warn you now, I'm still going through high school and I'm not THAT intelligent about worldly topics. But I can try to help with day-to-day things, such as new and easy hairstyles I've picked up, ways to survive high school, etc. I just want to make people happy because that makes me happy. But, I'm warning you now, I am a horrible speller. I'll try and check for that, but I can never be sure of some stray words. Now, to business. I will have some guest bloggers appear once or twice a month. These can range from my friends, my family members, or even other bloggers online. I think that a second opinion would be great, especially for tips. I would love for anyone to leave questions or even tips for me. Sharing is caring!!! I can't wait to get started and to share what I learn with all of you. I will try to post a blog at least once a week. These blogs can range anywhere depending on how I feel. If you want to see more of something, please let me know. Oh, and a fair warning, since I'm a girl, the books and stuff that I talk about will mostly apply to girls. Just saying. Anyway, thank you so much and I really hope you enjoy my blog! If you would like to contact me, whether it be for a book, a suggestion, or a question, please email me at thoughtfromlulu@gmail.com
